SHOUT SHOUT–Let it all out–PART 2

Yes you may recognise the title of this post as being a Tears for Fears classic from the 80’s – well that is if you are old enough. This series of posts is about something else, it is about a project called SHOUT & DeforestACTION.

SHOUT is a global student voice project in association with Microsoft, Smithonian institute and TakingITGlobal where young people all over the world can explore, connect and act.

For more information and to download the teachers guide visit here: http://shoutlearning.org/

DeforestACTION is one of the specific projects connected to SHOUT which is all about raising the awareness and trying to stop the deforestation of rainforests in Indonesia. You can read more about this and more about the projects related to this on the TakingITGlobal site: http://www.tigweb.org/tiged/projects/deforestaction/

So a for the last month or so some of our Year 7 students at school have been working towards some of these projects. You can take part in challenges that have already been designed and created by others or make up your own.

In this second post our students have been working on challenge 1 on the site: http://shout.tiged.org/land/assignments/?id=1000295 This is creating their own video game on deforestation using Microsoft’s Kodu. My favourite game is the one called ‘Honey I blew up the factories’ and is all about destroying factories to make more space to plant trees. To download Kodu for free visit: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/kodu/ or to download and play ‘honey I blew up the factories’ visit my skydrive here: http://bit.ly/qi9kAe if you have got Kodu already on your machine you just need to download the game and then play.

What do you think of the game?
