Student voice showcase at Plymouth E-Learning Conference 2011 #pelc11 PART 1–St James School in Exeter

It is exactly around 2 months since this event happened but I have only just had the chance to sit down and write a series of blog posts about this event. I have been reflecting on it ever since really. This is the second of several posts about the Plymouth E-Learning Conference but focusing on the kids. It was the first time we had a real flavour of ‘what the kids think’ and as Steve Wheeler AKA @timbuckteeth said in his blog post after the event: http://steve-wheeler.blogspot.com/2011/04/its-about-kids.html

“Yet Day 1 really belonged to the children, and the conference reverberated with their energy. It was a joy to have them joining us at the conference, and we will certainly be planning more children focused events next year, because let’s face it, our kids are not the future – they are the now”

Here is a fantastic post about #Pelc11 in particular about the student voice showcase from Matt Lingard, you can follow him on twitter @mattlingard or check out his blog here:

The first school in represented at the student voice showcase is St James School in Exeter, I first heard about the fantastic work they are doing by a teacher there called Stephen Farmer who I have been fortunate to know for a few years now. Stephen has been doing some brilliant work on social networking and the school have been developing their own Elgg network for a year or two now and it is having a great impact! You can follow Stephen on twitter as @stephenfarmer or the school @stjamesschool or check out his blog which also has links for the presentation and video recording of the schools presentation: http://newtechnologiesforschools.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/st-james-voice-pelc11/

I have to say that the girls who represented the school were such a credit to their school and to young people, they were super confident, highly articulate and completely engaged their audience throughout. Check out the links for more information.
