Why blogging makes good CPD sense

It was great to read a new article from the National College yesterday written by Michael Shepherd who is Headteacher at Hawes Side School in Blackpool. I have met Michael a couple of times and he is a great bloke, I also enjoy reading the two blogs that he writes. His article is all about why blogging is great CPD? I agree with so many of the things that he says.

You can read the full article here: http://bit.ly/kKCc4p

You can also follow Michael on twitter: @smichael920

You can also read my blog post in February about reading other teachers blogs for good CPD including a list of blogs to start with: http://bit.ly/fp73IX

You can also check out @chrisrat & his blog awards site that features some amazing blogs! http://educationblogawards.org/

Two teachers who are reaping the rewards of starting a blog recently are two of my colleagues – have a look at their blogs and let me know what you think?

The first is by Ben an amazing french and learning to learn teacher who is probably the only saltash teacher who doesn’t have an animal related alter ego. You can follow him on twitter @itsmerowey or check out his blog here:

The second is another saltash animal obsessed teacher – you have seen the chicken now meet the ‘red ruffed’ Lemur! Jimmy or @jimmy_edwards as he is known on twitter is an awesome ICT related teacher who has started a new blog – which is much better than mine (he obviously has much more time on his hands than me!)

Do you blog or just read other peoples blogs? Does it help in your professional development?

  1. I blog myself, and I read the blogs of others (mostly erratically, to be honest). I think I get a lot out of it, on several different levels.

It’s a great way to make sure my professional reflection makes sense.

I get other perspectives and suggestions on my ideas, when people do things I would never have expected (and usually better than I did). I also steal their ideas, frequently.

It allows me a reason to spend time making my resources just a little better, without it feeling like ‘work’. My blog is more like play with a professional edge.
