It was great to see Mishal Hussain from the BBC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mishal_Husain presenting the conference and she introduced her highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser chairperson of the Qatar foundation http://www.mozabintnasser.qa/en/Pages/default.aspx

It was really exciting to hear her highness talk in person, I have been an admirer of what she has been working on in the last few years.

She gave fantastic talk and really set the tone for the conference and basically outlined the bigger picture of why we are here:

In a world where boundaries between countries, cultures and sectors are increasingly permeable, ideas move fast and are capable of inspiring change anywhere and at any time. Our thinking about education and the challenges it faces can benefit from this rapid spread of views and experiences.

Next up was Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani, chairmen of WISE, who also set the scene about what WISE is about. He spoke about so many ‘islands of excellence’ that are doing wonderful work in challenging circumstances in education and learn how to expand, scale and sustain these practices. He spoke about the best way to improve is through collective collaboration and that we need to come together to share innovative practices. This is all fantastic, I just wonder how this impact will spread to everywhere in the world? This is a great chance by sharing projects like the WISE Awards every year.
