1 minute weekly web wonder – week 32

Thank goodness it’s Friday, to help brighten up your day and to help you with your planning at weekends, I will be posting a weekly web based idea that will take just 1 minute of your time to read about. If you like what you read then why not try it out in your lessons next week!

Socrative – http://www.socrative.com/

Special thanks to Sonia a great Physics teacher at Saltash.net for sharing this with me this week. It is a great website that allows you to use interactive devices that you may have in the classroom such as smart phones, laptops, netbooks etc anything with internet access that allows students to respond to questions through their device that then is collated on the teachers computer and projected to the class at the front.

I immediately tried it out with a Year 7 class and unfortunately the wireless just stopped working but we were able to use 4 of the kids mobiles with 3G. We only tried it out with two questions as the data usage is expensive here but it worked really well. When the wireless is working it means that most of the class can interact with say their phones for free. It is really easy give it a try!

In the famous words of Gary Barlow ‘it only takes a minute…’

Happy Socrativ-ing

Ps Have a great half term and enjoy the Jubilee!
