The TES Awards 2010

TES AWARDS 2010

Ever heard the phrase always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Well that is what happened at the TES Awards this week. For the second year running we were shortlisted as a finalist in the ICT Initiative category which in itself is an absolutely fantastic achievement and reflects the innovative ICT practice that is going on at our school on a regular basis.

Unfortunately we didn’t win, which yes we are a little bit gutted about however it certainly isn’t the end of the world, I think I was a bit more upset that our train was delayed due to all the lovely ladies and their fabulous fascinators getting stuck in the doorways of the train at every train station we stopped at on their way to Ascot. You may wonder why I would be upset about this well basically it meant that I and Kate our chair of governors missed out on several glassed of chilled and FREE champagne.

I know it may sound cliché but it is true, to even get this far and be recognised for the excellent practice in ICT is brilliant for our school and in particular our students, both last year and this year our projects have been student centred, student lead and more importantly not an ICT discreet subject project but an example of how we use technology to enhance the learning of our students across all areas of the curriculum.

The school that won the award was Corseford School in Renfreshire who had been doing a project in conjunction with Dundee University. It is an absolutely awesome project and use of technology that you couldn’t disagree was a worthy winner in every sense. The school had been using technology to communicate to parents and allow them more information on the learning that is taking place with their children. The school is a special school for children with complex mental and physical difficulties and it was great to see one of the students there to collect the award.

Anyway we had a great day out, and we are very pleased to be recognised at a National award being shortlisted, perhaps you never know next year it will be third time lucky! The best part of the day apart from spending all that time with my chair of governors obviously was making new friends and contacts, sharing good practice and developing future links. 1. Gosh – several glasses of champagne and you have all turned orange (and fuzzy)!

I did some work with with Corseford School a couple of years ago and was mightily impressed with the way that technology was being harnessed to make significant improvements in the lives of these young people and their parents/carers.

So – no shame to be second to such stars!

  2. TES Awards is valuable i know.In ICT practice you didn’t won.But it is not a fact. You done well I think. What Is you know and what is you performed is more important.Don’t be depressed.Better luck next time.
