Email Spams, Internet Scams & Nollywood? PART FOUR (Final post)

So over the last few posts you have got to learn much more about the project International Inspiration and what we got up to in Nigeria. I also shared in detail lots of information about our partner school which is the Government Secondary School Karu.

Assembly time

In June two representatives from the school will come to the UK to visit us for a week and we will then officially complete the draft development plan for our partnership. I wanted to share with you some of the main activities that will be taking place over the next few years.

Our main objectives will be to Increase girls participation in both numbers and marginalised groups in Nigeria & UK. We will do this by introducing Cricket & Netball in Nigeria, through our students training teachers and students in Nigeria. This will develop leadership skills for the students; once the Nigerian students know how to play they will then develop their leadership skills by introducing the sports to the primary schools within the community. Te staff and students at Karu will train and support the development of an African band and African dancing with some of our students who will then once again develop their leadership skills by teaching this to our primary partner schools and also the community.

In addition the sport we will be collaborating on other projects for example developing English Language and Literacy where our students from Saltash.net will prepare teaching materials for the professional development of Nigerian teachers and classroom resources for students to help improve the speaking of English of the school in Karu particularly pronouncing words etc. There is a group of students who are currently working on this now and will be using technology such as videoing and podcasting to do this.

Finally our partnership would obviously not be complete without some sort of bizarre chicken connection. We will be helping develop a chicken farm at the school in Karu to link with our livestock area at Saltash.net. Our school will help raise funds to start this up, the egg will be used for food and spare eggs will be sold with the money raised going to buy and update the school’s sports equipment. We will of course attempt to install an eggcam and will have an official unveiling by someone dressed in a giant chicken suit! Students at Saltash.net who are studying the Environment and Land Based Science Diploma will send resources that they will create to the students of Karu showing them how to look after chickens. So through chickens we will help development of sport and leadership in Nigeria – who would have thought that?
