Email Spams, Internet Scams & Nollywood? PART ONE

So when you think of Nigeria or if you google or bing Nigeria (I am showing no allegiance to either of these two search engines, there are also many other effective and useful search engines on the market) the things that come up are the spams, scams which I am sure you know about and have probably received but do you know about nollywood? Nollywood is what Hollywood is to the movies in America and Bollywood is to the movies in India, in Nigeria they have Nollywood. Hands up if you have ever seen a Nollywood movie? Yes I thought not!

Obviously it is unfair to say that these are what Nigeria is famous for, Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and the eighth populous in the world, it is famous for vast oil reserves and Jay Jay Okocha perhaps one of the best and most famous footballers to come out of the West African country. (Nigerians also love football)

So I am writing this at the weekend finding myself starting to consider packing for my first visit to Nigeria. On Tuesday I fly to Abuja (the capital) to take part in a project called International Inspiration, I posted about this a few weeks ago – see here:  http://bit.ly/9sIbZc Basically is it an international project that will reach 12 million children from 20 different countries by 2012 and we are very excited to be part of it.

The project will involve our school forming an international partnership with a school in Nigeria – we have now been told what that school is but I am unable to say at this moment in time as the Nigerian school may not know at the moment. I will hopefully regularly posting about our experiences and will let you know more about what the project is actually about as the visit progresses (Tinternet dependant) so please keep checking for updates over the next week or so.

Anyway I better start to think about packing, well shopping for my wardrobe, the weather currently in Abuja is 40 Degrees Celsius and heavy rain mmmmm. I hope to let you know more about Nigeria and the people there in future posts.
