£2 E-book created by students on the use of Facebook in schools–all proceeds go to charity!

I had the most amazing day today working with 20 Year 9’s (14 year olds) as part of a project they were learning all about social enterprise as part of one of saltash.net’s theme days.

The main objectives were that:

Students should gain an idea of what a Social Enterprise is and the importance of people, planet and profit.

Students will work together to come up with a social enterprise idea of their own, building on the examples that will have been given

we looked at examples such as The Eden Project and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen.

My group of students came up with the brilliant idea of producing an E-book as this would have a really low impact on the planet, the content of the E-book they decided to use Facebook as they know there is a debate at the moment in the media focusing on the negative effect of social networking such as it’s influence on the riots.

The students then decided to donate all their profit to a charity, the charity they selected was Action for the Children as they are working on ways of protecting young people online.

In just 3 and a half hours they have produced an excellent E-book as a great resource for children, teachers, Headteachers and parents all over the world.

The E-book covers things such as:

How to use Facebook socially, for learning, how teachers can use it in the classroom, why Headteachers should allow it to be used in schools and how parents can help protect their child when using Facebook.

The students would like to sell 50 E-books and so have set a target of £100 – if you would like to support and get a copy of this then please visit:  https://www.justgiving.com/SaltashEbook donate £2 leave your email address and we will send you your copy!

The students have also produced 1 minute video clips for each chapter that will be released on our website over the next few weeks.

Help support the students!
