I was really pleased to hear whilst out in Seattle recently that Skype has released the latest version with some fantastic new features the best of which has to be the 10 way video chat which is brilliant! Although this is not new I hadn’t realised that it came out in version 5.0 last year – oh dear!
Although one thing I notice in the new one is the integration with Facebook that wasn’t there before this must be due to the news from a blog post I wrote a couple of weeks ago:

I also featured in the Times Educational Supplement on the use of Skype in the classroom:

Now all I need to do is find 10 people to be friends with who have the latest version and see if it is free like the normal video chat or if you have to pay for it as a premium service because until I try I won’t actually know (although it does say this on the site). Apparently it is premium but there is talk of it being made free – can anyone confirm this?
If you would like to test the 10 way chat – then please tweet using the hashtag #chickenskype and I will try and arrange a Skype call between us all to test it. Please download the latest version though first. Alternatively if this doesn’t work then perhaps we can get on Facebook and try out the new Skype app sometime soon instead.
