The ‘Tech Lemur’ has landed… His take on WordPress (as part of the chicken nuggets series of posts no:1)

Over the next month or two I will be encouraging guest blog posts on my blog sharing good practice in the series called chicken nuggets. Here is the first one, if you would like to contribute then please get in contact and let me know.

I have mentioned the lemur before but he has finally persuaded me to allow him to write a guest blog post on why did the chicken cross the road?

I know the lemur as I am fortunate to work alongside him at Saltash.net and he writes with some advice about using WordPress http://wordpress.org/ for teachers who are considering starting a blog so here it is:

“I was very surprised how easy it is to set up a blog using this site. There were lots of templates to choose from as well as the option to include your own banner and customise your pages. All you need to set up a blog is a computer with internet access and an e-mail account. I use Windows live as I can link directly with my blog as soon as I log on to the computer.

The main outcomes when I initially set this blog up were like I said earlier to share my idea of new technologies with anyone else with similar interests. Now it has developed these desired
outcomes have changed and I definitely want to move towards a more collaborative platform via the blog.
Overall I found the WordPress website to be a very good platform for blogging as it is easy to produce high quality results very quickly with the templates that they provide. I was also impressed with the customisation available on the site.

I would however look downloading a program called Windows Live Writer. This program allows you to post to your blog with ease and it is very user friendly with regards to interface as well as the tools available within the software. I use this software as I found the default WordPress posting software to be very clunky and very difficult to format pictures etc. Since I have downloaded Windows Live Writer I have not looked back. The best advice I can give anyone wanting to create their own blog is to give it a go and keep at it you have nothing to lose. Thanks to the lemur for sharing his practice, don’t forget please get in touch if you want to share something.
