Leading2Learn Learning2Lead – Week #1

I am still learning to lead and so you can join me in this journey once a week where I will discuss issues to do with leadership and management in schools. It would be great to hear from you about your thoughts on all things leadership.

The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can’t blow an uncertain trumpet.
Theodore M. Hesburgh

In my opinion those most successful leaders in education well actually those most successful leaders in the world are those that are able to incorporate their vision into their own daily behaviours.

If you can hold this core purpose to everything you do and to remind others and question others as part of the daily routine of school then it is a constant reminder and driver to push the learning community forward and has the best interests of the children at heart.

It reminds me of the TED talk by Simon Sinek which is about how great leaders inspire action. If you haven’t seen it then you really must it is a great clip on leadership. http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action.html

It is a really interesting talk relating to leadership in essence what puts others, (individuals), organisations apart from the rest – ‘they think, act and communicate differently’

A successful school will be determined by an inspiring vision where the whole school community are signed up it, the majority of people really do give 110% they believe in what the school is doing for the good of the kids, they are prepared to give blood, sweat and tears for the good of the children. That is they type of school that I want to lead.

What do you think about vision?
