Perhaps it is about time you joined the K Team!

So after much badgering from:

James Edwards @Jimmy_edwards from Saltash.net http://techlemur.wordpress.com/

Ray Chambers @Lanky_Boi_Ray http://www.raychambers.wordpress.com

Gareth Ritter @ritzertech http://www.askthemusicteacher.co.uk/

Nicki Maddams @GeekyNicki http://www.interactiveclassroom.net/

and finally after much begging from Stuart Ball @innovativeteach http://blogs.msdn.com/b/teachers/

I can officially announce that I have finally agreed to become the ‘Face’ of the K Team, often to make new initiatives and ventures a success you need a strong brand, someone respected and well known to represent the product, as they couldn’t persuade anyone else then that person is me.

So last week I finally got round to downloading the Kinect SDK software, got it working, tested it in my office then used it in two of my lessons.

Here is ‘my story so far’…

Step 1 – The ‘office test’

While no one else was looking I decided to try out the software and see if it actually worked so I had a go at the basic shapes programme that came with the free download, as I was trying it out I used community clips to screen capture what happened:

Those ninja like moves are so fast sometimes the kinect can’t keep up!

Step 2 – The ‘classroom test’ PART 1

For this I activated the kinect cursor control so I was able to control my PowerPoint slides with the ‘karate chop’ movement of my hands, I am not sure how much it contributed to the quality of the learning that took place within the lesson but it certainly engaged the students and made them giggle lots Smile

Step 3 – The ‘classroom test’ PART 2

Wow this time I took a big step towards greater things I programmed my own application (well basically I downloaded one Ray did but customized his quiz to have specific Science related questions that my students in Yr11 were revising for their January exam) The kids absolutely loved playing the quiz and helped them with their revision. The quiz I am talking about can be found on Ray’s blog here: http://raychambers.wordpress.com/kinect-applications/

Why not download it and have a go yourself!
